What is Plexiform Fibrohistiocytic Tumor?
Plexiformfibrohistiocytic tumor is a low-grade malignant (cancerous) tumor that usually arises from the soft tissues of the skin of the upper extremities (shoulder, arms, and hands), lower extremities (legs and feet), and in very rare cases head and neck.
There is no well-known cause; however certain genetic mutations are considered responsible for the development of plexiformfibrohistiocytic tumor.
It usually affects children and young adults. It is slightly more common in females than males.
Signs and Symptoms
The patient may suffer from the following signs and symptoms. These are
- A small, slowly growing mass in the upper and deeper layers of the skin of the arms, hands, legs, feet, or head and neck
The following diagnostic test and procedures can be used to make a diagnosis.
- Imaging techniques such as X-Ray, USG, CT-Scan, and MRI to detect the site, size, and extent of the tumor.
- Skin biopsy for histopathological examination.
Complete surgical removal of the tumor along with the removal of some healthy surrounding tissues is the main treatment option.
What support can we give for Plexiform Fibrohistiocytic Tumor?
