What is Atypical Fibroxanthoma?
It is a type of skin tumour that usually develops on the head and neck or scalp in older people due to significant exposure to the sun or radiation therapy. It can be cancerous.Disease Causes
Older age, exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun, and exposure to certain radiation are some of the possible causes of atypical fibroxanthoma. Disease epidemiology It usually develops in older adults between the ages of 13 and 95, with the average age at onset being 69. It is equally common in men and women.Signs and Symptoms
The patient may suffer from the following signs and symptoms. These are- Tumour or lesion (abnormal mass) on the skin of the head, neck, or scalp is usually red and dome-shaped
- Bleeding from the lesion
- Nodules or tumours usually developed on sun-exposed areas of the head, neck, and scalp
- Some nodules may be of dark colours
- Nodules size usually does not exceed 3cm
- It may occur as a single nodule (tumour) or multiple tumours

The following diagnostic tests and procedures can be used to make a diagnosis. These are- Tumour biopsy
- Electron microscopy
- Dermoscopy
- Immunohistochemistry
